What you'd do
- Collaborate with senior electrical engineers in the NIC division to design, prototype, and validate mission‑critical electrical systems, including power distribution, signal conditioning, and high‑speed interconnects.
- Develop detailed schematic drawings, PCB layouts, and bill‑of‑materials (BOM).
- Perform functional and environmental testing on electronic subsystems, including thermal cycling, EMC/EMI verification, and vibration regression, to meet MIL‑STD‑810 and MIL‑STD‑461 requirements.
- Execute firmware development and debugging on microcontrollers and FPGAs writing clean C/C++ and HDL code that satisfies safety‑critical constraints.
- Integrate electrical subsystems with mechanical and software teams, ensuring that power budgets, signal integrity, and environmental requirements are met across the full system architecture.
- Participate in design reviews, safety analyses certification activities, and preparing required documentation for audits and reviews.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes, including template creation, SOP development, and best‑practice knowledge sharing.
- Support the setup and maintenance of test rigs, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other test equipment to enable rapid firmware and hardware validation.
- Investigate and prototype emerging technologies such as wireless IPSEC connectivity, edge‑processing solutions, and advanced power‑management ICs to enhance system resilience and performance.
What they want
- Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and will be enrolled full time in Fall 2027
- Be majoring in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related STEM degree.
- Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S.
- Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
