Are you a driven, student journalist eager to work in an award-winning newsroom before your senior year? The Wall Street Journal graphics internship offers an unparalleled opportunity for college juniors to gain practical work experience in our award-winning newsroom in New York with mentorship and tailored training sessions. Graduate students enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline – October 31– who are returning to school in the fall are also eligible to apply. We are looking for ambitious students who think foremost about the audience and are able to work independently under deadline pressure. You don’t need to be a business or economics expert, but a commitment to high journalistic standards is a must.
You will:
What you'd do
- Produce compelling, and editorially strong, visual journalism, both alone and across teams, that take advantage of your strengths. This may include data-driven interactives, maps, charts, or other explanatory work.
- Learn WSJ systems and best practices for the creation of information graphics.
What they want
- Completed at least one prior reporting internship with another professional media organization or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.
- Dedication to high journalism standards.
- A demonstrated interest in business reporting is a plus, though prior business or economics reporting experience isn’t required.
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator or Datawrapper is required.
- Experience with and interest in responsible AI experimentation, data analysis, data-driven projects is encouraged.
- Experience with front-end development is a significant bonus.
- A cover letter that highlights why you would be an asset to the team.
- Three examples of your graphics reporting work outlining your role and/or contribution. These can be links included in your cover letter or screenshots in an appendix.
