The role – what you’ll do
Barr is seeking a mechanical engineering intern to join our Minneapolis team for the summer of 2027. In this hybrid role, you will support the Engineering and Design group working on project teams involving mechanical engineering and related technical assignments.
A successful person in this role is motivated and emphasizes client service by providing quality deliverables. They enjoy working independently and as part of a team, using their expertise and technical skills to add to each project. They are flexible in working with their project teams and are willing to occasionally modify schedules to meet project deadlines and/or client needs. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, including scheduling, prioritizing, and follow-up, are key to success.
What you'd do
- Technical knowledge: completing engineering calculations and analyses, selecting equipment and components, preparing design drawings and specifications, writing technical reports, and preparing sketches for system arrangement.
- Communication: demonstrates strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
- Interpersonal savvy: effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and clients to align technical work with project objectives while fostering strong, productive working relationships.
What they want
- GPA of at least 3.2/4.0.
- Proficiency with any Autodesk products (AutoCAD preferred), Solidworks, and Mathcad.
- Excellent technical communication and document development skills, with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for engineering calculations, spreadsheet design, data analysis, document layout, formatting, and production of professional-quality technical deliverables.
- Completion of at least one semester of upper-division (junior/senior-level) engineering coursework.
