Way In is a free tool that helps students find opportunities. Use it honestly, don’t post things that aren’t yours, and understand that we surface listings — we don’t employ anyone, vet every employer, or guarantee you a job.
These terms are a contract between you and Way In. By creating an account or using the site, you accept them. If you don’t, don’t use it.
They work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect and who can see it.
Way In is an independent project built by a student. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or operated by the University of California, Santa Cruz, or by any of its departments. References to UCSC describe who the product is built for and where its public listings come from — nothing more.
Way In is also not affiliated with any employer, lab, or organization whose listing appears here, and their appearance is not an endorsement in either direction.
You must be at least 16 years old. If you’re posting on behalf of a business, department, or lab, you must be authorized to represent it.
One account per person. Accounts are not transferable — you can’t sell, lend, or hand yours to someone else.
Keep your password to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has gotten into your account. What happens under your account is your responsibility.
Give us accurate information. A profile that misstates your school, graduation year, or experience isn’t just against these terms — it produces worse matches, which defeats the point.
Don’t:
Your profile, resume, listings, and messages remain yours. We don’t claim ownership.
You give us permission to store, display, and transmit that content strictly to operate the service — to show your listing to students, to show your resume to an employer you apply to, to deliver your message to its recipient. That permission ends when you delete the content, apart from copies already delivered to another person and short-lived backups.
Only upload content you have the right to upload. Don’t post someone else’s logo, writing, or artwork without permission.
If you post a listing, you’re responsible for its accuracy, and for taking it down when it’s filled or withdrawn.
When you apply to something, that’s between you and the employer. Way In passes along what you send. We aren’t a party to the application, the interview, the offer, or the job.
The fit shown on a listing is a computed suggestion based on your profile. It is not an assessment of your ability, and no employer sees it as one.
Employers can pay to sponsor a listing. A sponsored listing is marked “Sponsored” wherever it appears and is shown only to students it fits. Sponsorship never changes the fit a listing shows you or the order of your results beyond that slot, and an employer is never told who saw it — only how many. Employers cannot see your profile unless you have switched that on, and cannot see your resume at all until applying through Way In exists and you apply to their role.
Employers and labs post through a form that goes to us, not straight to the board. We read every submission before it appears, and we may decline one without giving a reason.
Most listings on Way In are not posted here by their employer. We mirror publicly available postings so students can find them in one place: UC Santa Cruz Academic Recruit; the public boards of employers who publish through Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, SmartRecruiters and Workday; USAJobs; EdJoin; and the US Department of Labor’s CareerOneStop, whose data appears with the credit its licence requires. Every mirrored listing links back to the original, and applications go through the employer’s own system — never through us. We do not mirror any board whose terms forbid it.
We copy them as they are, and we can’t guarantee a mirrored listing is current, complete, or accurate. Where a mirrored listing and the original disagree, the original is authoritative. Always confirm details on the source before relying on them.
Your record is what you say you completed, and what other people say about it. Entries are self-reported. A confirmation comes from a named account — the listing’s poster, or someone you named as a collaborator — and shows as “verified” only because that person put their name to it. A single dispute outweighs any number of confirmations.
Way In does not verify any of it. Don’t claim work you didn’t do, and don’t confirm work you didn’t witness; either is grounds for removing an account, and a confirmation made in bad faith carries the confirmer’s name.
We don’t promise you a job, an internship, an interview, or a reply. Way In shows you opportunities; what happens next is between you and an employer.
We don’t vet employers, verify that a listing is legitimate, or run background checks on anyone. Use the same judgement you would anywhere else: be sceptical of anything that asks for money, banking details, or your Social Security number before you’ve been hired. A legitimate employer does not need your bank details to interview you.
We don’t promise the service will be available, uninterrupted, or free of bugs. It’s a student project, offered free, and it may change or stop.
You can delete your account whenever you want, for any reason, from Settings. It goes immediately — profile, resume, record, confirmations you gave — and it cannot be undone.
We can suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms — most often for fake listings, harassment, or scraping. Where it’s reasonable to do so we’ll tell you why and give you a chance to respond, unless the situation is urgent or telling you would make it worse.
Way In is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent the law allows.
Some jurisdictions don’t allow certain warranties to be excluded, so parts of this may not apply to you.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Way In and its creator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost opportunities, lost data, or lost income, arising from your use of the service.
Because Way In is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to one hundred US dollars.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Santa Cruz County, California, and you agree to that venue.
If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
We may update these terms. The date at the top always reflects the current version, and for material changes we’ll give notice before they take effect. Continuing to use Way In after a change means you accept it.
